So who's going to the Gap this weekend? The weather looks a bit iffy, although Saturday might be ok. I want it to hit the high 60s and low 70s and just stay there for a while. Meanwhile, I think I am going to change my oil and filter tomorrow if it is raining. I recently became aware that you can purchase STP filters for your motorcycle at Autozone and save a bundle over the stealership prices. I think I am going to switch to synthetic as well (the red cap Mobil 1). I will see if it makes a noticeable difference and report back. I don't really have any complaints though, my bike shifts smooth as silk at all RPMs, but synthetic might be nice when the rpms are screaming in 2nd all the way through the Gap. Decisions decisions.

Tuesday, March 30th, 3:31 P.M.

Back from New York and ready to do some riding. Unfortunately, it looks like it will be raining for the next few days. Hopefully this weekend will clear up so I can get up to the Gap. New York City is a crazy place, and a hell of a lot of fun. There are many motorcycles there too, which I find surprising because the cabs drive like a bunch of loons and I would think that riding a bike in NYC would be like a bad game of roullette. Perhaps a New Yorker can shed a little more light on this. Regardless, I took a ton of pics and drank a lot of beer (and tried to avoid the $10 ones....wow!). It is good to be back though, you just can't beat the riding around here and I missed my bike quite a bit!

Tuesday, March 23rd, 10:09 P.M.

It looks like the weather is improving here, the 10 day forecast looks GREAT. Too bad I will be gone for most of it. Yes, I am heading to New York City to see a couple of friends, so no riding for me until next week. I will definitely be taking a lot of pics though...I might post a few on here even though they aren't motorcycle related. On a more important note, I just heard on the news that over 3000 riders have signed up for the benefit ride for Jason Scott's family. His wife just gave birth to their first child today, which makes the whole thing even more important. I can't think of a better reason to ride your motorcycle.

BTW, check out the new commenting system I have added to the site. I encourage everyone to use it, you can comment on my entries, ask questions, etc. If it doesn't get used I will take it down, but hey...it is worth a try.

Sunday, March 21st, 8:17 P.M.

Damn weather. Just when I thought Spring was here to stay, it gets friggin cold here in Knoxville. Yes, today has a blistering high of 50 degrees, but the wind made it feel like 35. Needless to say, I wussed out and didn't make it to the Gap. I am a tad upset about this too, because I will be out of town next weekend so it might be a little bit before I make it back. Ahh well, I enjoyed myself on Friday. I heard back from Dom (the guy with the R6 you see to the right) and he made it back to Buffalo ok. It seems he is in the process of rebuilding his bike, so hopefully he will return to try and conquer the Dragon. I uploaded a couple of pics I took Friday to the gallery, but I really didn't shoot much so there isn't anything special to put in there.

Saturday, March 20th, 7:14 P.M.

Wow, all of the traffic over the past 4 days has overloaded my bandwidth. You might have noticed that the site was down for a bit until I confirmed with my hosting provider that I wanted to pay for extra bandwidth. It might have something to do with the 15-20 forums that have linked directly to my site. That, and all of the photographs, pretty much killed my bandwidth limit of 5 GB. Oh well, I am back in action, although my pockets are now a tad lighter. What a BEAUTIFUL day today. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do much riding, but I saw quite a few people on 2 wheels and they all looked happy. I might head to the Gap tomorrow...it depends on if it warms up enough. I hate this Spring/Winter weather, I want it to get warm and stay warm!

Friday, March 19th, 7:02 P.M.

Ahhhhhhhh, what a beautiful day at Deal's Gap. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, there was hardly anyone there and the weather was perfect. There was some gravel in a few places, but overall everything was great. The poor R6 you see to the right met a large boulder at 30 mph or so. The owner, Dominic, had brought it all the way from Buffalo. It will be a long trip home for him. Be careful out there everyone, the Dragon is unforgiving.

Thursday, March 18, 6:29 P.M.

Update, Killboy has put the pictures I took last weekend up at his store. Head over and buy a few so I can afford to purchase a new lens to take better pictures of you all :)

Thursday, March 18, 10:09 A.M.

Last night was a lot of fun. For anyone who comes through Knoxville or lives in Knoxville, if you haven't checked out the Time Warp Tea Room you most definitely should. It is like a motorcycle museum. You can find it at 1209 N. Central, just North of the Old City. I talked to Greg and his riding partner for a bit, they were both VERY friendly. They said the ride was long but was going well (this was their first day). They did get lost for an hour and half, which I couldn't quite understand why since they have GPS units. They have a van that follows them with a camera girl and another guy. He said they hit a top speed of 56 by drafting a semi down a hill. Normal cruising speed is 40-45. It is going to be a loooong trip, but they have MP3 players to listen to. What is interesting is they are going to fly Greg home 2 times during his trip so he can host the show, then fly him back to resume the ride. I thought he might host from the road. Oh well, look for the Knoxville edition on April 6th...if you see a dude with a big camera who keeps taking pictures, that is yours truly! I think the pics turned out pretty good. I was shooting at 1/10, handheld, at 1600 ISO!! Crazy. That explains the noise, but overall they still look decent for those poor lighting conditions.

Wednesday, March 17, 11:39 A.M.

Well, there has been a ton of traffic through here in the past day or so. I am getting thousands of hits from message boards all over the place...I am counting 10 or more different forums. Hopefully this has been taken care of and anyone else who sees these pics will think twice before crossing that double yellow at the Gap. Greg White and the 2 wheel tuesday crew are going to be at the Time Warp Tea Room tonight at 8 P.M. here in Knoxville. I will be there with my camera, so check back...hopefully I will get some cool pics. I am going to ask him why they didn't come through Deal's Gap on their way from Charlotte...their route is taking them on US 25/70 NW into Knoxville from Asheville. If you don't know what I am talking about, Greg and a buddy are riding across the U.S. on 50cc Yamaha scooters. These things have a top speed of 40 mph!! Man, I hope they don't get bored easily. You can see if they are coming close to you here. Looks like Memphis is their next stop.

Tuesday, March 16, 10:57 A.M.

Rain rain rain. I guess I better get used to it since spring is pretty much here. I guess snow would be worse, so I won't complain too much. Thanks for all of the nice emails you all have sent...I have uploaded a few more shots from last weekend to my site. The motherload of photos are on their way to Killboy, so hopefully they will be available for purchase pretty soon.

Monday, March 15, 5:05 P.M.

I checked the radar yesterday morning at 9:30 and there was a line of rain between Nashville and here. I decided to stick around Knoxville and not head down to Deal's Gap. Of course, the rain moved slow as hell and it didn't start raining here until 4:00 or so...I could have had a nice day or riding and photographing. Ah well, that damn mother nature. So I had fun shooting for this weekend. Met a lot nice people, like Kelly and her blue Mustang and Eric from Knoxville. I have mailed off the pics to Darryl and they should be online in the coming week. I will be returning soon...perhaps on Wednesday but if not, definitely Friday. Some peeps are coming up from Memphis for the weekend to try their hand at the Dragon. So far, the weather looks most excellent.

Saturday, March 13, 8:05 P.M.

Deal's Gap was rather busy today, but not as busy as I thought it would be on such a beautiful day. I spent much of the time camped up in a curve around halfway through, shooting hundreds of photos for. Look for them on there later in the week. There was some action though, a couple of dragon bites happened...in fact one car went off the road right near me. The axle is toast and the poor driver had to wait the whole day to get a tow. My buddy Chris on his MINT 600rr did a superman impersonation off the side of a cliff. Luckily Chris is fine, but the bike didn't fair so well. I am in the process of uploading some pics to the gallery...they should be there soon. Other than that, a great day of riding. Look for me there again tomorrow, shooting up some more pics for you all to peruse and purchase.

Friday, March 12, 12:33 A.M.

Back in town and got to go out for a ride today and unwind a little. Spring is here and the weather seems to be staying just warm enough to make riding enjoyable. I can't wait until it gets to the 70s and stays there. I am working with my buddy Doug on a site for East Tennessee riders to gather, discuss, and arrange rides/events/etc. It should be online in the coming week(s). Other than that, look for me this weekend at Deal's Gap...I will be shooting pictures for.

Thursday, March 4, 9:39 A.M.

Well I am going to miss riding this weekend...I am about to leave for Atlanta and then head on down to my buddy's in Tallahassee. I really need to invest in a utility trailer so I can take my bike with me when I go on these trips. It looks like the weather around Knoxville isn't going to be that great, so I guess it could be worse. Hopefully the rain will wash off any remaining salt/sand from the Gap and prepare it for the rest of the Spring/Summer/Fall. This is my favorite time of the year...right when it is starting to warm up, knowing that I have a good 8-9 months of good riding ahead of me.

Tuesday, March 2, 11:18 A.M.

Check out this fascinating site that details a girl who rides her ZX-11 through Chernobyl. The pictures are amazing...the entire area is one huge ghost town.

Sunday, Feb 29, 8:33 P.M.

What a beautiful day. I made it down to Deal's Gap today with a couple of friends and made a TON of passes...so many that I lost track. The road was in very good shape, very little salt or gravel. There were quite a few other riders there as well, and everyone was in good spirits...likely because this was one of the first warm, springlike days this season. I am looking forward to many more. I took a ton of pictures today, I have uploaded them into the Deal's Gap section of my site. I was happy with how my new Digital Rebel performed.

Sunday, Feb 22, 9:32 P.M.

Well I finally made it to Deal's Gap. It was a gorgeous day so I couldn't resist. The road is in pretty good shape, and I got to start warming up for the season. Took a few photos and added them to my Deal's Gap gallery.

Saturday, Feb 21, 6:57 P.M.

Another pretty nice day, so some more riding was in order. This time Val and I decided to head down 129 to Chilhowee lake and have some lunch at one of the pulloffs. I was fine, but she got pretty cold. What a wuss. I guess I can't complain too much, since she was wearing my summer jacket. We swapped for the ride home and I froze my ass off. Ahh well, it was still a lot of fun. I have added some photos to the galleries and done some rearranging.

Another bike, bitten by the Dragon. Take it easy out there folks.

Greg White scoots into Knoxville on his 50cc scooter. Check out the pics

Yet another update: I have received a lot of emails from various car/bike owners, and there seems to be quite a few misconceptions floating around. Let me clear some of them up. I am a photographyer for . I stand in this same spot for hours, photographing every car and bike that comes by. That is how I was able to get this shot and all of the others. It was certainly not a stunt, and it most certainly IS a blind corner. There is no possible way of knowing what is around the corner...hell even I didn't always know and I would have to listen closely before crossing the road. Yes, I do realize that lots of other cars/bikes cross the double yellow, but this car was caught on film, AND he has violated the double-yellow worse than any car or bike I have ever seen. Yes, I am aware that lots of bikes and some cars pass on double yellows, but very rarely do they do it in a completely blind corner where they cannot see any of the road ahead.

This guy is an IDIOT. Only a matter of time before he kills a rider. Does anyone know who this is? If so, tell him to save this type of driving for Europe. Click for a bigger pic. Last update: Ok, the driver has emailed me and pretty much apologized for driving like this. I am taking the info down now because I am sure the 127th phone call really cemented in that he was in the wrong :) I am leaving the pics up for a bit though, just as a reminder that driving like this should not be tolerated by ANYONE, including riders. Who gives a shit if you make it through Deal's Gap 15 seconds faster if you are risking your life and other fellow riders' and drivers'. Thanks for all of the emails and information, it obviously worked. The power of the internet =)

Oof, the Dragon is very unforgiving. Poor 600rr didn't even see that gravel coming. Be careful out there people!
